Simeon Gallagher, OFMCap is a member of the Mid-America Province of the Capuchin Order. He was ordained a priest in 1971 and his ministerial background is diverse. He was Campus Minister at Fort Hays State University (Hays, Kansas) from 1972-78 and held faculty positions at both Marian High School (Hays, KS.) and Marymount College (Salina, KS.). He was Chairman of the Religious Education Board for the Salina Diocese.
In 1978 he was appointed Co-Pastor of Good Shepherd Parish in Shawnee, Kansas and was a faculty member of Notre Dame de Sion Academy in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1980 he assumed a Pastorate at Holy Cross Church in Thornton, Colorado. While there, Fr. Gallagher conducted a highly successful Parish Development Program, an effective effort to encourage new leadership and invite greater parish participation, done in conjunction with the national Metropolitan Organization of Peoples.
Fr. Gallagher is Director of the Preaching Ministry Office of the Mid-America Province of the Capuchin Order. He conducts retreats, parish development programs, parish missions, and religious education workshops. His association with the Emmaus Spirituality Program for Priests has gained him an international reputation in conducting retreats for priests. His work has taken him to Central America (El Salvador). He was instrumental in founding Emmaus in Great Britain. He has presented ecumenical lectures at the Jean XXIII Centre, Geneva, Switzerland. For the past several years he has worked closely with the US Armed Forces at military bases around the world. He recently returned from engagements in Asia and Australia. In June, 2011 he was a featured speaker at the Society of University Neuro-Surgeons(SUN)International Symposium in Athens, Istanbul, and Ephesus.
Fr. Gallagher holds advanced degrees in Religious Education, Ascetical Theology, Liberal Arts, and 19th century British Literature. His literature degree has earned him a reputation as a scholar in the works of John Henry Cardinal Newman. He is a graduate of the Great Books Program at St. John’s College (Annapolis/Santa Fe). Father Leonard N. Peterson was ordained for service in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on May 20, 1967 by John Cardinal Krol. After two years as a parochial vicar, he spent the next 23 years in the Education Apostolate. He taught at Cardinal O’Hara (1969-80), Archbishop Ryan for Girls (1980- 82) and Lansdale Catholic (1982-86) High Schools before becoming the Newman Chaplain at West Chester University (1986-91).
In 1991, he was appointed pastor of St. Bridget parish in Philadelphia until 1993, followed by a dual assignment as parochial vicar at St. Anastasia Parish, Newtown Square, PA and adjunct professor at (then) Immaculata College from 1993 – 97. In 1997 he was appointed pastor of St Maria Goretti Parish in Hatfield until 2012.
For over twenty years, he wrote both op-ed pieces and homilies for the now defunct Catholic Standard and Times archdiocesan newspaper.
Retired in 2012, Father now assists part time at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Marmora, NJ. He also writes weekly Scriptural Reflections for the John Patrick Publishing Company.
