1921

In 1921, John Cabrey and Richard McSorley were tasked with finding a site better suited to the League’s retreats. After viewing more than 100 locations, the two were inspired by a local Paoli man—whose guidance they equated to St. Joseph leading the Holy Family to shelter in Bethlehem—to purchase 57 acres of a large estate in Malvern. This property remains the site of Malvern Retreat House to this day.
