Malvern Retreat House is specially dedicated to the care of St. Joseph. The property is often called “St. Joseph in the Hills.” Tradition holds it was St. Joseph’s intervention over 100 years ago which brought the Laymen’s Retreat League to the Cox Mansion in Malvern. Saint Joseph stands as a beacon of steadfastness and protection. His life is intricately woven into the narrative of the Holy Family.
Despite his silence in the scriptures, his actions reverberate through time, offering solace and guidance to fathers and families alike.
Saint Joseph’s legacy reveals a deep faith and a devotion that still motivates people today.
The Divine Guardian
St. Joseph is often referred to with the Latin term custos which means “guardian” or “protector.” He was the guardian and protector of the Blessed Virgin and the Christ Child. His life and his vocation is a model for fathers who are called to be the ‘custos’ for their wives and children.
Saint Joseph, chosen by God to be the Earthly father of Jesus Christ, exemplifies righteousness and humility. Tasked with the sacred duty of safeguarding the Holy Family, Joseph’s unwavering dedication serves as a testament to his virtuous character and is a mode to fathers today.
