Fr. Eugene “Gene” Wehner, OCD

Fr. Eugene “Gene” (of the Eucharist) Wehner, OCD has been a member of the Order of Discalced Carmelites for 27 years, but was ordained for the Diocese of Bismarck, North Dakota 47 years ago. He was born in Dickinson, North Dakota in 1949. After graduating from St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minnesota, he attended St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, Colorado. After priestly ordination in 1975, he served as a parish priest and was on the diocesan ecumenical commission. Discerning a call to religious life, his first profession in 1995 at the National Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After various ministries and studies, he served in Kenya as a formator, spiritual director, retreat director, chaplain to Discalced Carmelite nuns, pastor, secondary school teacher, and librarian.

ENow, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Monastery in Washington, DC, he is the main librarian for his community and spiritual assistant for three Secular Carmelite communities. He also gives spiritual direction, retreats, and occasional conferences. He is the author of the e-book Dear Daddy: The Love Letter Method of Meditation.
